Hello! Welcome to A Better Colgate!

We are a group of alumni, stretching across 59 years, who believe that better accountability, better transparency, and better alumni participation will make a better Colgate!
While there are many great things to celebrate about Colgate, we believe a change is needed to empower alumni to have a say in the future governance of Colgate by instituting direct alumni elections of a meaningful number our Board of Trustees.... it’s that simple!
We ask you to evaluate our case for direct alumni elections. No personal attacks. No negativity. Just the facts.
Recognizing the challenges facing Colgate and higher education today, we have reached out to Colgate's Alumni Council to form a Trustee Election Work Group to evaluate the viability of direct alumni elections for our Board of Trustees. We believe this creates a logical next step and see this as a constructive approach for all of Colgate's stakeholders.
Despite what has been written and said about our group, we all have fond memories of our time in the Chenango Valley and hopeful ambitions for Colgate's future. Importantly, we believe alumni are intelligent enough to review footnotes, sources, etc. and passionate enough to make up their own minds about the merits of alumni elections.
Our call for direct alumni elections is a result of the rising cost of our education, the increasing size of our administration, the declining donation rates of our alumni over the last seven years, and the fact that many of our peers embrace alumni elections to their Boards.
We've heard now from more than 1,800 alumni who think this is an idea worth pursuing.
As Americans, we know the democratic process fosters greater accountability, transparency, participation, and ultimately, superior results. It seems logical that Colgate's governance will be improved by entrusting our 31,000+ alumni to engage in the process, instead of allowing only 7 people to select members to our Board as it is currently structured.
Please explore our web site for information, give us your input, forward this information to one other alumnus, and sign our petition.
Thanks for all of your support and input. It’s time for alumni to become directly involved in the governance of our alma mater!
